Fishgram is a free web application that uses AI computer vision to estimate the length of a fish from a photo. Fishgram is operated by Shulure Ventures LLC, a limited liability company, doing business as Fishgram ("Fishgram," "we," "us," or "our"). Shulure Ventures LLC is the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Fishgram website at https://fishgram.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have.

We do not require you to create an account to use Fishgram. We track usage anonymously through a first-party cookie.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

Uploaded fish images. When you use Fishgram, you upload a photo (JPEG or PNG) from your camera, camera roll, or by drag-and-drop. We store this image so we can run measurement and so you can see your result.
EXIF metadata from your images. Cameras embed metadata in photo files. We read EXIF fields such as focal length and image orientation because we need them for the depth-based measurement math. Some cameras and phones also embed GPS coordinates in EXIF. When your photo contains EXIF data, it is included in the file we receive and store. See Section 10 for more on EXIF.
Optional feedback. After a measurement, you can submit a thumbs up or thumbs down rating, the actual fish length, the species name, and a confidence level. All of these fields are optional.

Information we collect automatically

Anonymous cookie ID. We set one first-party cookie containing a randomly generated ID. It lets us keep your session, link your measurements and feedback together, and count engagement (total, successful, and failed measurements per anonymous user). The cookie does not contain your name, email, or any other identifier you gave us.
Request metadata. Like most web services, our hosting provider logs standard request information, including IP address, user agent string, and timestamps. These logs are used for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.
Measurement metadata. For each measurement attempt we store a session ID, the success or failure status, any error message, confidence scores, and processing times. This helps us debug failures and improve accuracy.
Engagement counters. We maintain per-cookie counters of total, successful, and failed measurements, plus the first and last time we saw that cookie.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses, because there are no accounts.
We do not collect payment information. Fishgram is free.
We do not ask for your location and we do not use browser geolocation. If your uploaded photo happens to contain EXIF GPS, see Section 10.

2. How we use information

We use the information above to:

Run the measurement pipeline on your uploaded photo (fish detection, depth estimation, reference-object detection, and length blending).
Show you your result and any diagnostic views we provide.
Improve the accuracy of the product. Feedback, success or failure status, and error messages are the main signals we use to find and fix measurement bugs.
Produce aggregate analytics about how the service is performing (for example, overall success rate, average error against user-reported actual lengths).
Protect the service against abuse, spam, and automated attacks.
Debug and maintain the application.

3. How long we retain data

We retain uploaded images, measurement records, feedback, and the anonymous cookie ID until you ask us to delete them, or until we decide we no longer need them for the purposes above. In practice, retention may be indefinite. Server request logs are retained according to our hosting provider's defaults.

If you want your data removed, see Section 8.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do share data with third-party service providers we use to run Fishgram. These providers fall into the following categories:

AI model inference providers — receive your uploaded image so AI models can detect the fish, estimate depth, and produce a length estimate.
Cloud hosting and logging providers — run the Fishgram website and process standard request logs.
Cloud database and storage providers — store measurement records, optional feedback, the anonymous user row, and the uploaded image itself.

Each of these providers acts as a processor that handles data on our behalf and is bound by its own terms and security commitments.

We may also disclose information if we are required to do so by law, to respond to a valid legal process, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Fishgram, our users, or others.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

Fishgram uses a single first-party cookie containing an anonymous session ID. We use it to keep your session working across page loads and to associate your measurements and feedback with the same anonymous user so we can measure engagement.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or cross-site trackers. We do not participate in ad networks.

6. Children's privacy

Fishgram is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has uploaded a photo or submitted feedback, email us at legal 'at' fishgram.com and we will delete the data.

7. International data transfers

Fishgram is operated from the United States. Your data is processed in the United States and wherever our service providers listed in Section 4 operate. If you are using Fishgram from outside the United States, you understand and agree that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries.

8. Your rights and choices

All users

Because we do not have accounts, the only way we can identify your data is by your anonymous cookie ID or the approximate timestamps of your uploads. To request deletion of your data, email legal 'at' fishgram.com and include one or both of the following so we can find your records:

Your cookie ID (you can find this in your browser's developer tools under cookies for fishgram.com), or
The approximate date and time of your upload or uploads.

We will delete matching uploaded images, measurement records, feedback, and the anonymous user row from our database and storage.

California residents (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

Know what personal information we collect about you, where we got it, why we use it, and who we share it with.
Delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
Correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
Opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law.
Non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email legal 'at' fishgram.com. Because we do not maintain accounts, please include your cookie ID or approximate upload timestamps so we can locate your records.

If you are in the European Union, European Economic Area, or United Kingdom, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Rectification of inaccurate data.
Erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten").
Restriction of processing.
Portability of your data in a machine-readable format.
Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Legal bases for processing. We rely on our legitimate interests to provide the Fishgram service, to perform product analytics, and to prevent abuse and protect the service. Where we rely on consent (for example, if we ever ask for it in a future version), you can withdraw consent at any time.

9. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. Traffic between your browser and Fishgram is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Data stored with our cloud providers is encrypted at rest using their standard encryption. Access to production systems is restricted.

No system is 100 percent secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of information you upload or that we store.

10. EXIF metadata note

Photos taken on modern phones and cameras often contain EXIF metadata. Fishgram reads specific EXIF fields, such as focal length and orientation, because the measurement algorithm needs them. EXIF from many devices also includes GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. Because we store the original uploaded file, any EXIF metadata present in that file — including GPS coordinates — is stored with it and may be used to provide or improve Fishgram features.

If you do not want location data in your uploads, you can strip EXIF from a photo before uploading it. Most phones have a setting to disable saving location to photos, and there are free tools and apps that remove EXIF from existing images.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will also post a notice on the Fishgram website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
